Technology Strategy & Project Development
We help project owners navigate the critical decisions that shape project success long before contracting begins. From technology screening and qualification through Pre-FEED, FEED, and licensing, we provide independent guidance to ensure selected technologies are technically robust, commercially viable, and aligned with project objectives.
Rather than relying solely on technology vendor recommendations, we support our clients through structured decision-making processes that evaluate technical performance, operability, scalability, project risks, and long-term business objectives.
Our support spans the full development lifecycle, from early technology assessment through licensing negotiations and FEED readiness.
How it works
We support clients in assessing and qualifying technologies before major project investments are made. Through structured evaluations, we help determine whether a technology has reached an appropriate maturity level for deployment and whether it is suitable for the specific project application.
Our reviews consider technical readiness, operating references, scale-up risks, performance guarantees, integration requirements, vendor capabilities, and long-term operability.
The outcome is a clear understanding of technology opportunities, limitations, risks, and mitigation measures before progressing to the next project phase.
What we do
- Technology screening and benchmarking
- Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessments
- Evaluation of demonstration and reference projects
- Scale-up and implementation risk reviews
- Performance guarantee assessments
- Independent technology due diligence
- Vendor and technology provider evaluations
- Technology selection recommendations
How it works
We support project owners during the early development phases by ensuring technical, commercial, and execution decisions are aligned before entering detailed design and project execution.
Our role is to challenge assumptions, coordinate interfaces, facilitate decision-making, and ensure project maturity is progressing in a structured manner. We help clients maintain focus on value, risk management, schedule certainty, and investment readiness.
Through active involvement in Pre-FEED and FEED studies, we help create a robust foundation for successful project delivery.
What we do
- Pre-FEED and FEED management support
- Technology integration reviews
- Design basis and scope definition reviews
- Process design and operational philosophy reviews
- Stakeholder alignment workshops
- Technical risk and opportunity assessments
- Project maturity and readiness reviews
- CAPEX and schedule challenge sessions
- Owner’s engineering and technical advisory support
- Preparation for FID and tendering
How it works
Selecting and negotiating a technology license can significantly influence project economics, risk allocation, flexibility, and long-term operational performance.
We assist clients throughout the licensing process, helping them engage effectively with licensors, evaluate proposals, understand obligations, and negotiate commercial and technical terms.
Our objective is to ensure that licensing arrangements support project goals while maintaining appropriate flexibility and risk management.
What we do
- Licensing strategy development
- Identification and screening of licensors
- Technology proposal evaluations
- Technical and commercial comparison of license offers
- Support during licensor clarification meetings
- Review of licensing agreements and obligations
- Performance guarantee evaluations
- Integration of licensing requirements into project execution strategy
- Interface management between licensor, EPC contractor, and owner
- Negotiation support during license award
How it works
Effective contract management starts before the contract is signed. KQi supports clients in setting up pragmatic, project-specific contract management frameworks from Day 1, aligned with the chosen contract strategy, delivery model, and governance structure.
We focus on clarity, discipline, and early intervention. Our approach ensures that obligations, risks, and changes are managed proactively during execution, rather than reactively once issues escalate into claims or disputes.
What we do
- Set up contract management frameworks tailored to the project and contract model
- Define roles, responsibilities, and governance for contract administration
- Establish change management, early warning, and notification processes
- Develop practical tools: contract registers, correspondence protocols, and trackers
- Support valuation, variation, and time impact processes during execution
- Act as owner-side commercial counterweight during contractor interactions
- Support negotiations and resolution of issues before they escalate into disputes
- Define change, variation, escalation, and claims mechanisms
- Ensure contracts are execution-ready and fit for purpose
What sets us apart
KQi combines owner-side project experience with deep knowledge of industrial technologies and project development.
We understand that selecting a technology is not simply a technical decision. It affects capital cost, operability, schedule, contracting strategy, licensing obligations, and long-term project performance.
Our team helps clients challenge assumptions, compare alternatives objectively, engage effectively with licensors and technology vendors, and make informed investment decisions with confidence.
Unlike traditional engineering advisors, we remain focused on the owner’s commercial and strategic interests throughout the project lifecycle.

Contract and Commercial Advisory Services for a Mixed-Use Development in Berlin, Germany
KQi was appointed by the Contractor to provide commercial and contract advisory support on a large-scale mixed-use development in Berlin. Our scope included supporting contract negotiations with the Employer, setting up the project’s contract management framework, and providing ongoing commercial support during execution. KQi also assisted with the preparation and substantiation of extension of time (EOT) claims and advised the Contractor on dispute-related matters. Through this support, the Contractor strengthened its contractual position, improved claim readiness, and managed time and risk exposure more effectively throughout the project lifecycle.
